1. Check the seals
Many parts of your refrigeration system depend on seals that are functioning perfectly. A broken or loose seal can create water leaks or let cool air escape from your refrigeration unit.
Check the seals on the doors of your refrigerator and make sure they have a tight connection when you close the doors. Rust, frost or mold around the seals is an indication of a problem.
Additionally, check the seals of the gaskets on any valves or connections in your unit. Busted gaskets are often the spot where you can find a water leak if you have one.
2. Clean your components
The fan blades, condenser coils and other components of your refrigeration units can gather dirt and grime that affect their performance. You should be able to brush off these components on your own, but be careful not to damage the fan blades or any other sensitive parts.
3. Check for frost
Examine the inside of your refrigeration units for the buildup of frost and ice. A layer of frost or ice can be the sign of a water leak or a clogged drain. They may also be the sign of damp air getting in through a broken seal. A layer of frost or ice is a problem because it blocks the heat from being pumped out of the compartment.
You can clean off the ice and frost with some warm water. Do not use chemicals as they may be hazardous to the goods you store in the compartment. You may want to hire a professional to clean the harder-to-reach spots.
