Two commercial refrigeration repairs you can do on your own

Commercial refrigeration repairs can be costly, and many repairs may require the services of a highly trained and experienced technician. There are some repairs for which this may not be the case. In fact, there are two repairs that you can most likely do on your own.

  1. Improve airflow

One commercial refrigeration repair that you may be able to do without calling a technician is improving the airflow of your equipment. Airflow is important to commercial refrigeration systems for several reasons. For one thing, such systems need to bring in air to cool components like compressors and condensers. Otherwise, these components could overheat and lose efficiency. Also, refrigeration equipment requires good airflow to properly maintain the cooling process.

An issue that can create airflow problems is if the system is too close to the wall. This is especially true for refrigeration equipment like drink coolers and refrigerated food prep stations. To fix this problem, you can simply move the equipment in question away from the wall a little more. Another issue that can decrease airflow is dirt buildup on exterior cooling fans. However, you can easily wipe off the housings of these fans, and this may help restore lost airflow.

2.   Replace door seals

Replacing door seals on your refrigeration equipment is another repair you can likely do yourself. Door seals are vital to commercial refrigeration systems because they’re designed to keep cold air from leaking out. Keeping cold air in has a number of benefits for your refrigeration equipment. For instance, it keeps condensers and compressors from running continuously, and this can help increase their service life and decrease their energy usage.

Over time, door seals will wear out or become damaged. However, following several basic steps should allow you to replace a door seal. First, find out exactly what door seals your refrigeration equipment uses and order them from a reputable manufacturer. Once the seals arrive, remove the old seals and thoroughly clean the area where the old seal was. Finally, attach the new seal to the door and check to make sure there are no gaps through which air might escape.
