Understanding the role of different parts of your commercial refrigeration

Your commercial refrigeration is vital to the successful operations of your business. Part of having a commercial refrigeration unit is taking care of it. Commercial refrigeration units use different parts to keep the temperature in the compartment cool. All of these parts must be functioning for your refrigeration unit to work efficiently.

Over time, your refrigeration parts may need to be repaired or replaced. To help you understand the importance of taking care of your commercial refrigeration, here’s a look at some of the parts most vital to its operation.

Compressor

Commercial refrigeration units are able to preserve goods through a process of transferring heat from the refrigerator to the refrigerant fluid. This fluid absorbs the heat and is turned into a gas, which eventually cycles back to the compressor where the process starts over again.

The compressor is responsible for increasing pressure on the refrigerant gas leftover from the last cycle, which allows the gas to travel through the condenser coils.

Condenser coils

Condenser coils are exposed to air that can absorb the heat from the gas. This turns the gas into a cooled liquid that travels under a high amount of pressure. This allows the liquid to flow around through the refrigeration compartment and absorb heat from the inside.

Evaporator and expansion valve

After absorbing heat from the refrigeration compartment, the refrigerant travels through the evaporator coils. The expansion valve uses pressure to change the refrigerant from liquid back into gas, which evaporates through the evaporator coils. The gas travels through these coils back into the compressor where the cycle can repeat.
